Abstract Armenian Anatomy / Հայկական Վերացական Անատոմիա

Photography & Publication • Philadelphia

Featuring six Armenian models, this experimental photography book explores diasporan freedom through tightly cropped, dynamically framed compositions. Some subjects appear alone, while others are photographed in pairs: Armenians working together in a vulnerable state. Young survivors of attempted erasure are everywhere, making art, able to express themselves, and, in this instance, using unconventional angles and the body to portray a fruitful existence. Abstract Armenian Anatomy begs to declare, “Here we are, we survived against all odds.”

At the center of this self-published volume is a poem presented in English and Western Armenian (seen below), bringing its visual and emotional themes into dialogue. By way of proceeds donation, Abstract Armenian Anatomy also honors fallen soldiers through the Society for Orphaned Armenian Relief (S.O.A.R) ‘Families of Fallen Soldiers Fund’, which provides assistance to the spouses and children of fallen military personnel.
